Gold climbed for the first time in five days Wedding dresses, ending the worst losing streak since July, on increased investment demand and signs that global sales remain robust, led by India. Silver, palladium and platinum gained.
Immediate-delivery gold gained as much as 1.4 percent to $1 Tiffany Pendants,354.44 an ounce and traded at $1,352.85 at 4:14 pm on Thursday in Tokyo. It reached a record $1 Tiffany Jewelry,424.60 an ounce on Nov 9. Gold for December delivery gained 1.4 percent to $1,355.8 an ounce on the Comex in New York.
Palladium climbed 3.1 percent to $683.15 an ounce on Thursday. Platinum was 1.3 percent higher at $1,658 an ounce on Thursday after falling the previous four days. Both metals are used mostly to make jewelry and pollution-control devices for cars.
