Uruguay's main labor union launched a 24-hour strike on Thursday to demand more education and housing budget.
The strike,Wedding dresses, which began on Wednesday midnight, was joined by education and health workers, police officers and transportation and government officials, according to the Single Workers Union (PIT-CNT).
The strikers demand more budget for education, housing,Tiffany, industrial development and a national agriculture plan to stop the land purchase by foreigners.
Uruguayan Work and Social Security Minister Eduardo Brenta said the government was "absolutely respectful" for the strike.
President Jose Mujica said, "I wish this to be a calm day and not to interrupt the workers' movement, and (I wish) the following day we are all in good mood."
