Insurance companies make money by collecting your insurance premiums. They prefer that nobody has a claim. Sometimes insurance companies will put you in a high risk category so that you pay a higher premium. There are many different reasons why you can be put on that list. Just because you are in this category does not mean you are a horrible or irresponsible driver either. One reason you would have to have high risk auto insurance would be because you have a lot of traffic tickets. They will also put you in this category if you have a lot of accidents that you were considered at-fault for. Another reason you could be put on high risk is if you have had your insurance cancelled. This is probably the most common reason people are put on high risk insurance. Younger drivers are also considered a high risk even though it does not state it on the insurance bill.
