The majority of organisaitons that I work with are all over reliant on their computer networks. And this isn't just city based businesses anymore,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], IT is now used in just about every business model you can think of,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in fact I find it quite concerning that we rely on it to the extent that we do.However, many would agree that computers have changed our world for the better and the pluses outweigh the minuses. This entry is a good example, if I didn't have a computer then I wouldn't be able to publish this article to the internet and you wouldn't be sitting down at home reading my article, more importantly, I wouldn't be in work because I am a IT engineer ...So could we really survive without computers today? If we removed them from our world in one foul swoop then how much of an impact would this make? As a race, we humans have a reputation for being able to adapt quickly to change but I am not so sure that the world as we know it would be able to continue to function without IT, to me it would be like everyone, are we prepared for that? No.I suppose that it is down to your definition of 'the computer'. If you define a computer as a windows PC then, yes, maybe we could cope OK without these,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but if you are including everything that uses a computer program or process then in my opinion we wouldn't last 5 minutes. Think about it, my car has an ECU or 'engine management computer' as others call it, if you removed that from my car then it wouldn't even start. My fridge has a computer that keeps the temperature consistent, if you take it away then my food defrosts don't get me started on air traffic control! So how would we adapt? Would we go back to the manual way of doing things and get the pen and paper back out? Would we actually start picking up the phone to friends and family again instead of using Facebook? Would we start buying items form local suppliers instead of Amazon and eBay? Would we really have to start face to face conversations with people instead of using the 'I love knowing everyone's business' life intrusion app otherwise known as Twitter. The computer industry itself has evolved massively over the past 10 years. I am currently writing this article from a 'virtual desktop' that is provided by a cloud host' if I would have said that to you fifteen years ago then you would have thought I was mad,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]!! Now hosted solutions and Skype are commonplace in our working lives and if there is a problem with our computers then most of us have to stop what we are doing until it is sorted out.I ended this article sounding like a critic of computers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but I am far from this as they are my hobby and profession. I just have long term concerns about how dependent we are on computers and how this may affect us in the long term.Thank you for reading.
