We are all told stories of our family history by parents and grandparents as we grow up, particularly acts of heroism during hard times or during war. Often the stories are about people who have already died and the accuracy of their details is blurred by the passing of time. We are usually intrigued to find out more,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], about marriages, divorces, children,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], where are they now which leads us to want to find out more by researching our family history.
Family history research or genealogy is one of the greatest hobbies that exists today and for some people it is more than a hobby. People search today on the internet helps genealogists and hobbyists to find the records of their ancestors. They even use people search to find relatives who may know information about their ancestors to help fill in some of the gaps. Before the availability of the internet genealogists had to visit local courthouses, government storages of public records, libraries,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], graveyards, and a many other places just to get the necessary information that can make connections to their family tree. This work was tiring, tedious and required patience and determination to be successful in building their family trees.
The Freedom of Information Act has changed all that as it mandates the availability of Public Records and there are various categories of Public Records that relate to people search and genealogy including birth, marriage and death records,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], business records and legal judgments along with quite a few others. Sex offenders and reverse phone lookup are available too if it is so wished.
There are basically two versions of Public Records. The first version is free of charge (FOC) and the major source is the government agencies. The second one is the paid version provided by commercial information services and they too derive mainly from government sources. Their key value-add is really in the professional collation and compilation of data into plug-and-play readiness although they also have the means to tap into private and proprietary database networks. So for any serious genealogist or hobbyist wish to build a family tree these specialized information services are a must to make people search fast and easy.
