Tokyo stocks closed sharply higher Wednesday with the key Nikkei index up 1.81 percent.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 Average advanced 172.67 points from Tuesday to 9,Tiffany,691.43, marking a fresh closing high in about two months. The broader Topix index expanded 11.86 points, or 1.42 percent, to 844.50.
Trading volume on the main section jumped to 2,Designer Jewelry,884 million shares from 2,455 million shares Tuesday.
The biggest winner was the securities sector, which was followed by the consumer finance and real estate sectors. The air transport, electricity and gas, and transport equipment sectors were decliners on Wednesday.
