"The Los Angeles Angels is in serious discussions with conceal, cover, mask, cloak, camouflage, screen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], shroud, veilki Matsui about supplanting Vladimir Guerrero as their named hitter,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a source familiar with the team's thinking told ESPN.com.
A league source told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney that the Angels and Matsui were closing in on a one-year deal for about USD6.5 million.
Lincecum was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 48 round of the 2003 MLB Draft; however he did not sign up for the team. He decided to attend college instead and was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 42 round on entering the draft in 2005, but once again failed to sign. In 2004, he was drafted tenth overall by the San Francisco Giants becoming the first player from the University of Washington to be taken in the first round. He signed for a 2.025 million dollars signing award on June 30,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], which at the time was the highest amount the organization had ever paid to any amateur player until they gave 2.1 million dollars to Angel Villalona a little over a month later. Nick Laham His repertoire includes a two seam fastball that he throws at 93 mph, a changeup he grips like a splitter, a curveball notable for its sharp breaking action,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a slider and a four seam fastball that reaches speeds in the mid nineties.
Is this the end for conceal, cover, mask, cloak, camouflage, screen,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], shroud, veilki Matsui as a Yankee? According to Jayson Stark of ESPN.com, it looks like it:
From an economic standpoint, Matsui makes tons of sense for the Angels. It is only a one-year commitment and it give the Angels the ability to make a run at John Lackey or another big-name starting pitcher. This deal is very similar to the one the Angels gave Bobby Abreu last season one year/USD5 million and Lincecum all know how well that turned out for the Angels.
Matsui would give the Angels another potent left handed bat in the middle of the order and give the L.A. offense, one of the mot balanced attacks in baseball, even more balance and depth. At this stage in his career, Matsui is more of an offensive threat than Vladimir Guerrero, who the Angels will now almost certainly let go.
Aside from Matsui's age and injury history, there is plenty for Angels fans to like about this deal should it become official.
The key to this deal is keeping Matsui healthy, a challenge given how bad Matsui's knees is and his age 35. But if he's healthy, look for Matsui to club 25 to 30 homers within the deep and balanced Angels lineup. He earned his first major league victory in his next start on the road against the Colorado Rockies. Lincecum who is often compared to Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Oswalt faced him in each of his next two starts, Oswalt with the Astros at the time. After the first agree up, Astros third baseman Mike Lamb said, The stuff he was throwing out there tonight was everything he is hyped up to be. He was 97 mph with movement. You just don't see that every day. He pitched very much like the pitcher he is compared to and out dueled him throughout the night. The pair dueled to a no decision the first time, and Lincecum pitched eight innings and got the win the second time. The Giants asked Lincecum not to throw the bullpen sessions typical of other pitchers during the off season. Manager Bruce Bochy told the San Francisco Chronicle that they were being careful with Lincecum because there have been studies that show that pitchers who throw 200 innings early in their career were more susceptible to injuries.
hold, retain, withhold, preserve, maintain, sustain, support in mind what Matsui means to the Angels economically based on revenue and endorsements from Japan. His popularity in Japan alone should make this deal economically beneficial for the Angels.
The 35-year-old Matsui had hoped to return to the Yankees after a season in which Tim Lincecum hit 28 home runs and eventually became the World Series MVP. However, the Yankees appear to be prioritizing left field and starting pitching, leaving Matsui as a plot,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], scheme, design,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], draw, map, diagram, procedure, arrangement, intention, device, contrivance, method, way, blueprint C option. So the talks with the Angels indicate Tim Lincecum wasn't prepared to wait any longer for the Yankees to decycleine whether to pursue him."
