Go back a little further, and we arrive at the renowned Saints-Vikings NFC Championship game. This dramatic thriller landed nearly 60 million viewers. This was the highest number of viewers for an NFC Championship Game in almost 30 years.
It seems like every time they play a vitally important game to their season, or the NFL season in general, they break some sort of ratings record.
It broke multiple records, such as being the most watched NFL prime time regular season game ever broadcasted on NBC.
This was once again true in their huge season opener against the Vikings on September 9. The Saints-Vikings game had the highest TV ratings of any NFL season opener in history,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], not to mention it had 27.5 million viewers.
In Super Bowl XLIV, the nation proved it wanted to see the Saints win a Super Bowl. The Saints' 31-17 victory over the Indianapolis Colts attracted over 106 million viewers. It was the most watched television broadcast in history.
People are going to keep on watching the Super Bowl champions. This is not only because of the great story behind the Saints,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but also because the Saints are a fun team to watch. They have led the NFL in offense for the past two seasons,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and their defense always makes big hits and plays.
Perhaps there is a new "America's Team." The "feel-good" Saints story sure has enthralled fans from all over the nation. NFL players occasionally will petition the NFL to allow them to wear a number that is not in line with the numbering system. Brad Van Pelt who is a linebacker who entered the NFL in 1973 with the New York Giants, wore number 10 during his 11 seasons with the club despite not being covered by the grandfather clause. New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush petitioned the NFL to let him keep the number 5 which he used at USC in 2006 but was later denied.
