ABI – Vascular Doppler is a popular test to get the empirical data of ankle-brachial index (ABI). This test is essential for diabetic patients to study and predict the severity of the peripheral arterial disease also known as PAD. This test is done by measuring the blood pressure at the ankle and in the arm while the patient is in a resting position. The measurements are taken at periodical intervals after the patient undergoes walking or on tread mill. The drop in the ABI index is attributed to PAD and the patients should exercise utmost caution as this drop is linked to higher risk of heart attack or a silent heart stroke.
