Ryan Miller was born on 17th July 1980. He is an American ice hockey goaltender and is currently playing for the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League NHL. He was selected to play for the US hockey team in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games ice hockey game in Vancouver Canada in the position of starting goaltender. Ryan Miller won a silver medal with the team and was named most valuable player of the tournament. He would win the Vezina Trophy as the best goaltender in the last NHL season. Ryan Miller is known for his hybrid style of goaltending and is also the older brother of current Detroit Red Wings winger Drew Miller. Jonathan Daniel After the 2006 season,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Miller became a restricted free agent and waived his right to arbitration. Mike Liut,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Miller agent, continued to negotiate with the Sabres through the summer. On 8th Sept 2006 the Sabres announced that they have resigned Miller to a 3 year contract.
In the final series of my unit grades, We put the magnifying glass over head coach Mike McCarthy. In such a light,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], every flaw are all the more obvious, and the heat can cause one to burst into flames.
Sure, a young team are more prone to penalties. So are one that suffers injuries and has to put in a lot of back-ups. But if it are a problem year after year, the coach are at least partially responsible for the lack of discipline.
Penalties. The Packers have ranked worst or second worst in both number of penalties and penalty yardage in each of the last two years,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and averaged more than 1,000 penalty yards per season over the last three.
This are the most important thing the coach can do to make his team successful.
He are also not very good in instant replay challenges,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], although that are more a visible problem than a significant one.
That takes coaching, especially when you already have little experience on your roster. Could they share blame for the proliferation of injuries? Possibly,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but visit PackerChatters to see my theory.
Well,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], such would be the case if my opinion had any weight...
So what else can we use to grade him?
The next are the loss in their last playoff game, albeit one taken on the road.
However, one can put some credit for McCarthy on the turnaround after the loss in Tampa, with the Packers finishing 7-1 despite facing the toughest part of their schedule and with injuries piling up.
In all,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], McCarthy brings more good to the table than bad, and that earns him a B. Ryan Miller was supposed to play in the 2006 Winter Olympics. He instead stayed home and served as an alternate due to a broken thumb injury sustained which sidelined him from November 2005 to the day The US Roster was announced. The Team had already had other plans for their goaltenders, but Ryan Miller was still placed on the taxi squad. Ryan Miller was then selected as starting goalie for the US in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver Canada.
But one also has to examine the talent they had to work with. And this always begs the question: Did the members succeed because of McCarthy or did McCarthy succeed because of the members?
Thus, this also gives little comparison base. Even the turnaround from 2008 6-10 offers little help, as McCarthy shared much of the blame for that failure with bad gameplanning late in contests, as outlined late in one of last season's analyses.
One way to gauge which are which are to look at the past success of both entities. Unfortunately, McCarthy's prior career record of 27-21 9-7 average, two games below the 2009 season all came as coach of the Packers, and most of the youngest team in the NFL has never played elsewhere.
Of course, they also deserves some blame for the poor start to the season and the colossal collapse in that game.
See my grade for Ted Thompson on Lambeau Leap of Faith for a look at the talent McCarthy had to work with.
The first measurement of a head coach's success are obviously his win-loss record. Since these grades are based on 2009,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the first thing to look at are the impressive 11-5 record obtained by the Green Bay Packers.
What McCarthy has been good at are winning in the division. The Packers have won at least four of the six games in the division in every one of his four seasons at the helm,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and they won four again in 2009.
He also has kept the team focused even through the injuries: In 2008, Green Bay had as many as five defensive starters out at one time; in 2009, they were without three of the top six cornerbacks injured for more than six games.
